Adan will be a Bowmar Bear

Well we got the official letter today and Adan will be going to Bowmar Elementry. We are so excited. I can hardly stand it. Ask my family! I actually found out about 730 a.m. Friday at the hotel while everyone was trying to sleep. (Thanks Mary for calling me so I could find out sooner. It was so unexpected because I didn't think we would find out so soon!) We are so grateful for this wonderful news. I have been worrying, praying and hoping Adan would get in! Adan is the most excited because he gets to go to Scott's school. Also, several of his Crawford St. Preschool friends will be there too! We actually know quite a few people who got in to the school this year. I haven't known many people to get in since they started the lottery system. However, my friend said their wasn't as many applications this year, so good for us. So we celebrated today and went to Olive Garden, Adan's favorite place to eat. Go Bowmar Bears, now I will be able to start buying uniforms for next year.

Jacob in Nursery, Mateo in Primary again

Jacob went to Nusery for the first time today and he actually did better than we thought. They have the kids come in and color, so I took jacob in and sat him down to color. I was able to leave without him noticing I had left. When he did realize I had left he started crying. However, when our neighbor came in to do singing time she was able to hold him and he stopped crying. I am so glad we have been spending more time with our neighbors, because I think Jacob will do fine, even if he cries, she comes in shortly after to do singing time in Nursery. Then once they started playing with toys he was fine.





Mateo went to Primary today. Although I was there for a good protion of the time I was finally able to leave Mateo there for the last 15 minutes of class. Hopefully Mateo will get use to Primary again anf not think that he needs to go to Nursery. (He told us this Sunday that he would go to Nursery with Jacob so he wouldn't be scared and get snacks! He misses the snacks. Also, I think it has been hard for him to adjust since he does have some significant hearing loss he doesn't enjoy large settings anymore. We will be getting tubes on Wednesday and maybe that will help. We will find out in a couple of weeks when we are tested by the Audiologist again.

Fun in SLC

We had a lot of fun this past weekend. Since my mom was here we met her in SLC on Thursday and stayed in a hotel until Saturday. In those short three days we did lots of things. Adan described our trip as, "the best vacation ever!"
We went swimming and to Cafe Rio on Thursday. When we were in the hotel relaxing we found out about this pass called the Connect Tour pass (it was great! The pass offers 15 attractions you can see for one price.) We went ahead and purchased the passes so we could see some fin attractions we've never seen in the SLC area. On Friday morning we were all geared up to have a great day. First we went to the zoo. The kids loved seeing all the animals even though it was very cold. We were so excited we didn't think about doing the zoo until later when it was warmer, instead at that time we went to the Lion House Pantry for lunch (one of Brigham Young's homes) then off to the Clarke Planetarium and then the Gateway Discovery and then back to the Planetarium to see a 3D movie Under the Sea. (Thanks to my brother in law I was able to enjoy the movie since he had Jacob.) Adan kept asking why we were at the Planetarium learning about stars and learning about sea animals. He thought we should be watching a movie about the planets. (This is why he was so determined to see the Saturn movie on Saturday.) Then finally we got some quick dinner and into the pool we were. We also enjoyed some delicious apples from the Chocolate Candy Factory! Then baths and the kids to bed to prepare for another fun day. Saturday we went to the Museum of Ancient Life and there we saw another 3D movie about Dinosaurs. We played, learned and had a lot of fun! (Thanks to my sister for watching Jacob so I could see the movie.)We tried to go to the Living Aquarium but it was packed so instead we went to This is the Place, and since we had a bunch of little kids who didn't want to walk so we took the train ride to see the attractions there and then read the info where the statues are. We ate lunch on the go because Marisa and Adan were determined to go see the Saturn movie at the Planetarium as our last thing. Adan loved learning about space and had my mom read him lots of things at the various museums. We then went with my mom to a Pizza Hut on our way back home. We had such a good time. We were so tired when we were done. I didn't know how I would have the energy to drive back to Logan. Unfortunately my sister has the majority of the pictures on her camera since I forgot my memory card and had to rely on my internal memory. No fun. I hope to get the pictures from her over Easter. (Also, Adan mentioned this is the first time we have gone to the zoo without his friend Anna! They miss Mississippi so much, but at the same time they love being with family.)

An update on Mateo

Mateo has been home for a month now and his recovery is going pretty well. He has been going to physical therapy every other week and we have made enough progress to only have to go once a month. Mateo went from only being able to walk 40 meters on the treadmill to walking 150 meters this week! At his age he should be able to walk 400 meters. So we will continue our exercises at home and hope to make more progress next month. Well, the doctor's appointments are coming and we have been busy with doctor's. Today we went to see the Audiologist and had Mateo's hearing retested, since they didn't get an accurate screening at the hospital. Not good news though, because their is more hearing loss then was first detected, to the point that Mateo cannot really hear out of his left ear and has so much hearing loss that he isn't a candidate for a hearing aid because of the amount of hearing loss. Plus, he has fluid in his ears (an ear infection and the Audiologist wants us to go to the ENT first before he can give us recommendations about Mateo's ears and what his treatment plan will be.) So we will have yet another appointment on Monday to the ENT and the Audiologist is pretty sure he will need another set of tubes and his adenoids re scrapped. (I am a little frustrated because this is what I tried to get the doctor's to do at Primary Children's (see an ENT) but they were in too much of a hurry to get us out of their.) On the other hand I am glad this doctor caught this and we will be able to resolve this for Mateo. This also answers Mateo's cold and particularity the last few days, an ear infection. I am thinking more and more that preschool isn't going to happen the rest of this year and my goal is to have things figured out for when we go back to Mississippi.
I also wanted to post a picture of our sweet boy, as he is looking and feeling much better!

Our baby at 18 months

My baby boy Jacob is a year and a half. Wow where does time go? I cannot believe he is growing so much. His stats this month are 20 1/2 lbs and 30 3/4 inches. He is now in the 10th percentile in weight. Yeah! However he has been sick for a week now and it hasn't been very fun. He cries all day if I don't hold him or I leave anywhere. Hopefully he will start feeling better. Well Jacob still doesn't talk much however he is shaking his head yes, he gives you five, climbs up on our chairs and even on the table. Jacob is still great at snuggling. He is still loving pets and enjoys them in books or outside. Our neighbor had baby chicks and he was enjoying going over to see them. We will be sending him to nursery soon once we get Mateo readjusted to primary. Jacob is looking forward to Spring conditions so we can be outside more.

Lita and Risa come to visit

Sunday and Monday we were able to have my mom and little sister come and visit. (We were suppose to be in Vegas this week, but since Mateo's hospitalization last month we decided to stay close to home. I am quite sad since it is cold and snowing here.) However I am glad my mom and little sister are so accommodating and decided to spend their Spring Break with us and my sister's family. We loved having them here, and today after they left and headed south to Orem Mateo said, " Where is your mom? I like her, why isn't she staying?" Well we are looking forward to seeing her this weekend and hope everyone gets well soon so we can head south.

St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day was so fun for us this year. Adan has been talking about it for several weeks now. At school they were going to make a lephrachan trap and so it made Adan so excited. He told anyone that would listen to him about how his class was going to make a trap. The poor neighbor the other day had to hear the intricut details. I am not even sure if she understood Adan. Anyways, yesterday Adan was talking about how they made a trap at school adn what it looked like. He then wanted to make a leprachan. So we did.

Later that afternoon I pulled out the Family Fun magazine and found ideas of how to make a leprachan trap. With some patience and help from the boy's we made a trap. Adan was so excited he even invited the neighbors over to show them our trap. Adan was just sure we would catch the leprachan and that we would find all his gold. Unfortunately the leprachan is a tricky guy. He left us some treasures but we didn't catch him. Maybe next year! One of the things he left is a new slide. The boy's have been enjoying it since it has been pretty warm today.

Spring Break

Well Aaron had Spring Break and unfortunately it wasn't a break for anyone. Aaron got loaded down with homework again. Luckily, we were still able to have some fun throughout the week.

To start off Monday a huge snow storm blew in with about 10 inches of snow! Adan had his last tumbling class.

Wednesday the boys and Aaron had fun playing in the snow and building a snow castle. Mateo mentioned that mom stayed inside because she doesn't have snow clothes. Yeah it is something like that.

Thursday night we finally did our taxes.
Friday we went to the Draper open house. We really enjoyed going to the temple and the boy's were so excited to see the inside of the temple since it has not been dedicated yet. We also visited cousins.



On Saturday Aaron was able to sleep in and then have some fun rock climbing while the boy's went with their cousins to a Primary activity. (This was Mateo's first Primary Activity..
We also went shopping and purchased a new quilt for our bed. I also purchased more decorations at Rod Works of course. Finally before heading back to Logan we went to Outback Steakhouse and ate. The boy's even ate their meals! We were all so tired from our fun adventures. Unfortunately we wore Mateo out too much that he did not make it to Stake Conference. Adan and I went I was able to hear the meeting and sit in the Tabernacle for the first time.

Last Week's Happenings

We have had some exciting things these past few days. I was watching one of my favorite t.v. shows last week and I got some tips on how to make some delicious, low fat food chicken dishes. One of our favorite dishes while we have been here has been coconut chicken however, it is deep fried. We have enjoyed it each time we make it but I am always self conscious of how much I eat since it is deep fried. Last week on Biggest Loser, Rocco gave some tips on how to make deep fried chicken dishes more healthy. So, I tried it out this past week twice and we have enjoyed the Coconut Chicken dish with fewer calories and still a delicious taste!

On Friday since Spring Break officially started Aaron was nice enough to work from home so I could clean up the house for our guest, Samantha to come and stay for the night. Samantha arrived on Friday evening. Since it was already the boy's bedtime we got them off to bed and off Samantha and I went to pick up Sushi at our favorite restaurant! We also watched City of Ember which was a good movie. Saturday we had a delicious breakfast made by chef Aaron. I was excited to have Aaron cook, he even did all the dishes too! (I love Spring Break!) Samantha and I also went shopping! I was able to get Aaron a few shirts. We picked up some Cafe Rio for lunch, which is always delicious! We wanted to be able to get Mateo out for a little bit so since it wasn't too cold we went to get some Aggie ice cream. We wanted Samantha to have a better than BYU creamery ice cream experience. She loved the Aggie blue mint and thinks for some odd reason that the Cougars should take something else away from USU and have Cougar blue mint. I don't think that is ever going to happen though. Aggie ice cream is the best ever and no one can top USU's ice cream.



We have also been fish sitting for our neighbors and are enjoying every minute of it. Jacob loves the fish and every time he sees it smiles and points at it. The boy's have their assigned times to feed the fish and love the responsibility. The fish has been easy entertainment for Jacob every time we sit him down at the table.

Church was interesting yesterday. Since Mateo has not been to church in more than six weeks and somehow it has been so long that he has gone to Primary, he suddenly forgot that he is in Sunbeams and started crying because he wasn't going to Nursery and was too scared to stay by himself. He cried so much that they brought him to us during Sunday School. So instead of one child (Jacob in class with us), we has two kids to entertain for the three hours of church. We also had the first experience of having Mateo in a public place where his hearing loss is evident. I kept telling him to whisper and listen to the lesson, he finally said very frustrated, but mom I can't hear your teacher. Poor Mateo can't hear as well as he use to and we noticed that yesterday.

Last night we had some more fun and were able to celebrate our friend Brian's birthday! Happy Birthday Brian! We enjoyed a delicious cake, ice cream and good company. We also met a couple that is in our ward (who has been trying to connect with Aaron and talk to him about Vicksburg and Waterways to find out what he does, never realizing that we were in the same ward until last night.) They are looking into coming to Vicksburg as summer interns at Waterways. We are so excited and hope they decide to come. Too bad we will still be in Logan. We know our Vicksburg friends will take care of them though!

Fun with Addison

Addison our niece just had her 1st birthday. We had so much fun at her party. We got their a little bit early to play and hangout since we have never been to the Edward's house. Adan had a lot of fun hanging out with his uncle. Jacob loved playing with Addison but unfortunately his noisy grunting scares her and makes her cry. I got to chat with Catherine and help her decorate. The party crew arrived and we were ready for more fun. The kids loved the bubbles and the pinata. Adan broke it open and Jacob was the first one to reach the candy (of course, he is a sweetaholic). We got more candy then we needed. We still have lots from our nephew who had a party right before our sicknesses and Valentine's Day! (I hope I can convince We enjoyed being able to visit with cousins and aunts and uncles. the kids to trade it in for a DVD or CD.)

Jacob at 17 months

WOW, another month has gone by although this one didn't fly by with all that we have had going on. Jacob has changed so much. He is more talkative. He can actually nod his head yes and will tell you more of what he wants these days, which is good and bad. He now grunts if he doesn't get his way. So watch out when you tell him no or that he has to go to bed. My sister did a great job getting him to eat new foods, so now we don't have to give him his pediasure drink very often unless we need the convenience (like we are driving in the car at a meal time and need him to have a boost until we get to our destination). He has really grown up in the three weeks he was at the Davis house. He now sits at their kids table to eat meals, he climbs up on everything. He can even climb our chairs, which are far higher than the normal chair. Jacob loves to clean up and enjoys doing it. I will enjoy it until he gets to the stage where it is no longer fun. Since church is a little hectic because Mateo cannot go yet, Jacob nicely sat on a chair through Sunday school and part of Relief Society and when he was getting restless towards the end, he got out the wipes and started cleaning his chair. We did end up having to leave early because of the piano and wanting to play it and his wonderful grunting. Jacob also gained another skill of watching t.v. It has helped me in moments of need while trying to juggle everything. Luckily he is not at the I love t.v. point so I will enjoy it for now. Although Jacob did well not crying for my sister he is back at the I need mommy all the time and I am not sure how nursery will go next month. Oh and last but not least, at the beginning of the month he started smiley what we call his cheesy smile. It is so cute.
